Um ... wow.

To the New York Observer I say, "Negative much?"

I consider myself a dedicated pessimist — a strictly glass-half-empty kind of girl — but even I don't take such a bleak view of the novelist profession.

Then again, I don't have any plans to abandon my life and hole up in a writer's colony, or spend three years doing nothing but hammering out a book. Then again, I don't plan to get a six-figure advance, either. :-)

I'm Heather, by the way, a long-time lurker. To paraphrase Kevin Costner in "Truth or Dare," I think your blog is neat.

Thanks for stepping out of lurkdom Heather! While the article is totally negative, I found the comments (and ensuing arguments) on it rather entertaining.

Of course, I really should be writing so that I can prove the article wrong. ;)
